Jetboil Stash – The best lightweight backpacking stove system?

Jetboil Stash

Whilst all the Jetboil stoves boil water really fast, some people have found them a little too big and heavy to take backpacking or wildcamping… until now. Introducing the Jetboil Stash.

New on the market in 2021, the Jetboil Stash addresses any size and weight concerns, and claims to be the lightest and most efficient backpacking stove available. So we thought we’d take a look at what it has to offer.

Jetboil Stash spec and key features

What’s included:
Stove, cook pot, lid, stabilizer.

Weight:
200g / 7.1 oz
That’s a whopping 40% weight saving on the Jetboil Zip/MicroMo and a 45% weight saving on the Jetboil Flash. At that weight you are hardly going to know this stove system is in your pack – perfect for long days on the trail. (The stove only weighs: 80g / 2.82 oz. The cook pot weighs: 120g / 4.23 oz).

Height:
Packed: 11.2cm (4.4”)
Fully assembled: 25.2cm (9.9”)

Boil time:
Jetboil says the Jetboil Stash will boil 500ml (2 cups) water in 2 mins and 30 sec. Remember, it does depend on a few things such as your altitude, the temperature of the water to start with, etc.

Capacity:
The Jetboil Stash holds 0.8L which will easily boil 500ml (2 cups) of water. Perfect to make a coffee, prep a dehydrated meal, or fry those sausages on a cold morning.

Material:
Anodized aluminum. The burner cup is titanium.

Stove output:
4,500 BTU/h

Fuel canister storage:
A 100g gas canister can be stored in the cook pot. It clips to the underside of the lid preventing it from rattling around when you’re on the trail – a great little feature.

Measurement markings:
There are markers on the inside and outside of the cook pot so you can easily measure the right amount of water.

How efficient is the Jetboil Stash?
Jetboil says you should be able to get about 24 boils from a 100g fuel canister.

Igniter:
No igniter is included which keeps the weight down, however, there is room for a small lighter under the lid.

Micro regulator included?
No

How does it fit together?
The gas canister clips onto the stabilizer. The burner then screws onto the gas canister. The cook pot sits on the burner (there are cutouts/teeth to stop it slipping or moving). Nice and straightforward.

Is the Jetboil Stash compatible with other Jetboil accessories?
Yes. If you already have a Jetboil then you’ll be pleased to know your accessories will work perfectly with the Jetboil Stash.

Is the Jetboil Stash compatible with non-Jetboil products?
You can use any pots or pans with the Jetboil Stash stove, up to 20cm (8”) in diameter and 1.5L capacity, but you shouldn’t use the Jetboil Stash cook pot on other stoves.

So, is this the best lightweight backpacking stove system? Since the entire stove system “stashes” or nests inside the cook pot, and it weighs so little yet is so powerful, it’s got to be up there as one of, if not the, best lightweight backpacking stove system on the market.
