OneTigris Smokey Hut vs Iron Wall

OneTigris Smokey Hut vs Iron Wall

OneTigris are well known for providing great quality products at an affordable price. Today, we are going to take a look at two of their most popular tents and do a OneTigris Smokey Hut vs Iron Wall spec comparison.

One of the things we wanted to achieve with this OneTigris Smokey Hut vs Iron Wall comparison was to iron out some of the discrepancies in the specs that people have mentioned. We failed. We just couldn’t get to the bottom of a couple of things, such as whether the Smokey Hut is 2000mm HH or 3000mm HH, or whether 14, 10 or 12 tent stakes/pegs come with the Iron Wall. There are numerous cases of where it says one thing in one place and something else in another – possibly down to different versions/models being sold and descriptions not being updated. Anyway, as always, we have done our best to provide all the info we can find.

OneTigris Smokey Hut vs Iron Wall key differences:

  • OneTigris Iron Wall comes with an inner, whereas the Smokey Hut doesn’t.
  • The inner that is available for the Smokey Hut (can be purchased separately) is a whole tent inner – in other words it takes up the whole tent – there is no ‘porch’ area, so you can’t use a stove. There’s room for a stove when using the Iron Wall because the inner that comes with the tent is a half inner. However, OneTigris recommends you don’t use the stove and inner at the same time for safety reasons.
  • OneTigris Iron Wall has a D-shaped zipped door opening, the Smokey Hut has a full height zip.

Let’s take a look at the specs of each tent.

OneTigris Iron Wall spec

OneTigris Iron Wall

It’s important to note that there are a couple of versions of the Iron Wall knocking around, and there are a few key differences between the versions – so check which version you are buying if you decide to purchase one.

Key differences between the latest version of the Iron Wall and the old version (at the time of writing):

  • New Iron Wall has adjustable guys, old Iron Wall does not.
  • Old Iron Wall has a rubber waterproof zipper. New Iron Wall doesn’t. It doesn’t really matter though, as both tents have a rain-guard flap over the zip.
  • The new Iron Wall has a mesh inner that goes all the way to the top, rather than the flat top mesh inner of the old Iron Wall. This new mesh inner gives more head room and is hooked to the top, making it easier to zip down.
  • The new Iron Wall has a slightly longer pole.
  • The new Iron Wall inner has the zipper moved to the left side, away from the stove. So now you can get in and out of the inner much easier when you have a stove in place.

We hope our OneTigris Smokey Hut vs Iron Wall spec comparison will help you in choosing between these shelters. From our point of view, we feel that whilst the Iron Wall is slightly pricier, it does give better value for money since it comes with an inner. The Iron Wall just feels more versatile and allows you to use a whole bunch of different configurations throughout all four seasons. For example you can use the inner in summer or in winter you can leave the inner out and use a stove.
